Before you buy
- For the full 40 A output you need a NEMA 14-50 receptacle on a dedicated 50 A double-pole circuit. Lower settings work on 40, 30 or 20 A circuits.
- Ask your local electrical inspection authority whether a plug-in charger is accepted at your location. If not, the charger can be hardwired by a licensed electrician.
- United Chargers says additional GFCI protection is not required. Where code requires GFCI at the outlet, use a 20 mA GFCI breaker; a 5 mA breaker may interrupt charging.
- Mount the charger on a wood stud or solid concrete wall, not directly on drywall or stucco. Check the NEMA 14-50 receptacle torque at least once a month.
- App features need a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network that reaches the charger.
