Before you buy
- You need a NEMA 14-50 receptacle on a 50 A circuit within reach of the 0.9 m (3 ft) input cable. Leviton recommends its 1450R EV-grade receptacle (1450W weather-resistant for outdoor use).
- Outdoors, the weather-resistant receptacle must be installed in a 2-gang outdoor box with a code-compliant weatherproof cover.
- Under the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Rule 4-012, the local electrical inspection authority decides whether a cord-connected charger is acceptable. Check before you choose plug-in over hardwired. Leviton does not offer this 40 A model as a hardwired unit; its hardwired EV Series models are 32 A, 48 A and 80 A.
- Mount the charger 600–1,200 mm (2–4 ft) above the ground on a stud or solid wall. Do not use an extension cord.
- App features need a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network at the charger location.
- Leviton specifies installation by a qualified technician in line with the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations.
