Before you buy
- Gas line sizing must be verified by a licensed gas technician in accordance with Canadian gas installation codes (CSA B149.1) to maintain required flow under full load.
- The heater must be mounted on a level, non-combustible base with minimum clearances: 15 cm (6 in.) on sides, 122 cm (48 in.) above the top for outdoor discharge, and 15 cm (6 in.) at the rear.
- Maintain balanced water chemistry (pH 7.4–7.6, total alkalinity 80–120 ppm, calcium hardness 200–400 ppm) to protect heat exchanger surfaces from scale and corrosion.
- When installing above 120 GPM total filter pump flow, an external manual bypass valve assembly must be installed to prevent excessive heat exchanger erosion.
- Full winterization (draining header plugs and heat exchanger manifold) is required prior to freezing temperatures in Canadian climates.

Frequently asked questions
What is the thermal efficiency of the MasterTemp?
The MasterTemp achieves up to 84% thermal efficiency, meeting air-quality low-NOx emission standards with a fully premixed air and gas combustion blower system.
What gas line pressure is required for natural gas models?
Incoming natural gas pressure must be between 4.0 inches W.C. minimum and 14.0 inches W.C. maximum during full burner operation to avoid flame rollout or pressure drop.
Can the MasterTemp be automated with Pentair IntelliTouch or EasyTouch?
Yes. The heater has standard 2-wire automation connections compatible with Pentair automation panels, IntelliCenter, and third-party remote control systems.
What pad clearance is required around the unit?
Maintain 6 inches (150 mm) of clearance on the back and non-plumbed side, 12 inches (300 mm) on the plumbing side, 18 inches (450 mm) for front control access, and unobstructed overhead exhaust.
How should the MasterTemp be drained for freezing weather?
Shut off electrical power and gas valve. Remove the drain plugs from the water header, open the manual bypass, disconnect the union fittings, and use compressed air to expel any water remaining in the tubes.
