Highlights & Innovation

Key features

  • ProTek Shield galvanic protection — integrated sacrificial anode module protects the copper heat exchanger against aggressive water chemistry and galvanic erosion caused by modern salt chlorinators.
  • Microprocessor digital thermostat — high-contrast LCD controller provides precise pool and spa dual-temperature adjustment, clear operational readouts, and plain-language diagnostic fault codes.
  • Corrosion-resistant steel cabinet — heavy-gauge galvanized steel exterior receives a durable polyester powder-coat finish that withstands extreme weather exposure, UV sunlight, and rain.
  • Intermittent spark ignition — electronic pilot ignition system ignites fuel only on demand, eliminating the continuous fuel consumption of conventional standing pilot systems.
  • Non-corrosive polymer headers — engineered polymer header design optimizes internal water flow dynamics and resists rust and mineral scaling.
  • High-flow capability — internal mechanical bypass automatically balances water velocity through the finned tubes, supporting standard residential pump flow rates.

Canadian Installation & Compliance

Before you buy

  • Gas piping must be sized by a licensed gas technician in compliance with CSA B149.1 Natural gas and propane installation code.
  • Atmospheric units require clear outdoor vertical discharge with at least 122 cm (48 in.) overhead clearance from overhangs and trees.
  • The heater must be installed on a level, fire-rated non-combustible base or approved combustible floor shield.
  • Inspect and service the ProTek Shield anode periodically to maintain active galvanic corrosion protection across pool seasons.
  • Before winter freezes occur, drain water completely from both headers and the internal heat exchanger manifold using the drain petcocks.

Technical Details

Frequently asked questions

What cabinet finish is used on the Raypak Digital atmospheric heater?

The Raypak Digital features a galvanized steel cabinet with a multi-stage polyester powder-coat finish designed to withstand harsh outdoor weathering and corrosive pool environments.

How does the Raypak ProTek Shield protect the heater?

ProTek Shield is an integrated sacrificial galvanic zinc anode module installed directly in the water header that corrodes preferentially, shielding the finned-tube heat exchanger from galvanic corrosion.

Does the Raypak atmospheric heater require an electrical connection?

The digital model uses a 120/240 V single-phase electrical supply for the micro-processor control board and electronic direct spark ignition. Millivolt models are also available that operate without external electricity.

What water flow rate is needed for Raypak Digital heaters (206k to 406k BTU)?

The heater requires a minimum flow rate of 25 GPM to 40 GPM (depending on model) and includes an internal automatic bypass valve handling flow up to 125 GPM (473 L/min).

What gas supply pressure is required for natural gas operation?

Natural gas models require an incoming gas pressure of 5.0 inches W.C. minimum to 10.5 inches W.C. maximum under full operating load per CSA B149.1 standards.

What digital controls are built into the Raypak heater?

The heater features an on-board dual-thermostat LCD digital control that allows separate precise temperature setpoints for swimming pools and spas with self-diagnostic error reporting.

Can the Raypak Digital be converted from natural gas to propane?

Yes. Factory-approved field conversion kits are available from the manufacturer. Fuel conversions must only be performed by a licensed gas technician.

What are the plumbing connections on the Raypak Digital?

The heater includes 2-inch CPVC polymer union fittings that solvent-weld directly to rigid Schedule 40 PVC pool piping.

What outdoor clearance is required for the atmospheric heater?

Maintain 12 inches (305 mm) clearance from side and rear walls, 24 inches (610 mm) for front service access, and at least 36 inches (914 mm) of open overhead clearance above the pagoda top.

How is the Raypak Digital winterized in Canadian climates?

Shut off the main gas cock and power breaker. Remove the header drain plugs on both the in/out and return headers, disconnect the plumbing unions, and blow all residual moisture out with an air compressor.
